I was in Belém do Pará for the first time in 2009 and I visited wonderful places in the city. One of my favorite was Mangal das Garças that is an ecological park with 40,000 square meters near Guamá river and in the heart of historic center of Belém.
In the park there are many trees from The Amazon, animals, birds, museum, a restaurant where I had a delightful lunch with a little bit of everything from the very best food from the state of Pará and a butterfly house.
Passei horas no borboletário as observando e fotografando. I have always loved the restless fly of the butterflies. Perhaps because of their short lives they do not allow themselves to land in a flower for more than a few seconds. I spent hours observing and photographing the butterflies.

Primavera no Pico do Jaraguá

On Sunday, 18th September 2011, the NGO Terra Group organized a tour to celebrate the arrival of Spring. For us “Terráqueaos”, as we like to call ourselves, flowers’ season arrived a little earlier than what the calendar shows.
We were a group of more than 40 people including 20 blind people and 20 volunteers.

The mission of the NGO Terra Group is to promote the inclusion of blind people through sport, leisure and culture.
It was organized pairs with a blind person and a volunteer before getting on the bus in São Paulo. All the day's activities would be done in group. The pairs were maintained until the end of the tour so that people would have the opportunity to get to know each other better.
O nosso passeio no Parque do Jaraguá começou com diversas atividades físicas. Our day at Jaraguá Park began with several physical activities.

We attended a lecture about  Jaraguá's Park and the importance of preserving the forests.
The signs in the Park are also written in Braille. As soon as the lecture finished we walked through the trail of Silence.
As we walked, the volunteers described for the blinds whatever was found on the way.
At the end of the trail, Ricardo Panelli, founder and president of the NGO Terra talked about our mission of preserving nature. Our day tours are always in places of extreme natural beauty. We love and respect nature. We never leave any kind of garbage anywhere we visit and we do not remove anything from nature, you only appreciate its beauty.
Once we finished the trail it was time for our picnic. We do not only share food but also our experiences and the joy of being together.
To celebrate the arrival of the Spring everybody received a flower’s name.
At this time there was an exchange of the pairs because each volunteer had to find its match among the blind people and form a new pair with the same name of flower. The pairs received a flower corresponding to the name previously given and the volunteer described it for the blind person.
Holding the flowers in our hands we went to the top of hill to enjoy the wonderful view of the city of São Paulo.
On the way back, on the bus, we sang while Luciano played the guitar and Rodney did amazing performances.
Totó recorded everything with his camera. He learned about photography with his brother while he could see. Blindness does not prevent him from taking great pictures and have a different approach towards life.

At the end of each tour there is no doubt I lived a special day. I am always eager to share with everyone my joy of being part of Terra Group.

I thank you all “Terráqueos” that have been together for long time as well the new friends who joined us.
